Early Times Report
Reasi, Mar 29: Tehsil Reasi of district, off late , has been in news over land grab.
In a striking incidence of state land encroachment in the district, Early Times has come across some land mafia illegally occupying state land in various areas close in vicinity the trunk roads connecting different villages.
From a focal village of Baradari two main roads that move towards Katra and Pouni adjacently, certain hutments have come on the roadside on the state land which have been illegally encroached upon by the land mafia .
From Baradari , which is 4 kilometers from Reasi, runs a road to Pouni where after nearly 2 kilometers three tin sheds have been erected , out of which two have been sold out to people against heavy prices .
Similar is the case on the road from Baradari to Katra that after 500 meters inside on the roadside one can see another three pucca structures raised which again have been sold out to the people against good amount.
People nearby in both the areas allege that construction has come overnight which has not even given time for a rethink as to which government authority is constructing these structures.
"On first instance only tin sheds were raised which gave an inference that some government structures are being raised for some official works of some departments. Later brick and cement construction was done with lanterns laid and immediately sold out to the people," said one of the resident of Pouni .
People allege that when some concerned approached the revenue department to seek information about such construction, no answer was given to them.
"We are very sure that revenue department is in hand in glove with the land mafia in encroaching the state land while administration is sleeping over the issue, " said Rakesh Bharti , a graduate student of Katra where three structure has come up .
Early Times have also released the pictures of the illegal construction in the area which give witness to the testimony of the illegal encroachments
The residents of both the areas in Pouni and Katra have appealed to the Commissioner Secretary revenue to take stock of the situation and remove the illegal encroachments.
It is in place to mention that not only on these venues, but land mafia is expanding its tentacles in district Reasi and has got patronage of the one of the political party of the state which has been in coalition in erstwhile government.
