Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 29: Blatant misuse of state-sponsored resources such as ambulances in the state of Jammu and Kashmir is an issue which has been raised several times in the past couple of years. One such appalling instance came to light recently where a hospital deployed at a government hospital in the state was seen transporting firewood.
A video of people loading firewood on to the ambulance in Doda district's Bhaderwah town has gone viral with social media users criticizing the state's health department of shocking negligence which resulted in this situation. An ambulance such as this one could have been used to ferry those in need to a hospital and is instead being used to carry out personal chores, wrote one user on micro-blogging website Twitter. Inquiry has revealed that the ambulance belongs to a sub-district hospital in Bhaderwah. Reports suggested that this is not the first time an ambulance deployed at a state-run hospital has been caught being used to carry out personal chores.
A similar incident had surfaced from Vishal Nagar area in Jammu district where a state-owned ambulance was used to transport saplings. Other such instances have also been reported from other parts of the state. Such blatant misuse of state resources comes as a shock, especially in the state of Jammu and Kashmir where patients, including pregnant woman, have to be carried to nearby hospitals by locals on foot due to the sheer lack of roads and ambulances. As per the latest reports, after a video of the ambulance being used to carry firewood went viral, authorities initiated an inquiry into the matter and even placed the ambulance driver on suspension. However, whether this will act as a deterrent for those who believe that they can misuse state-owned resources for their own whims is yet to be seen.
