Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 11: Power Development Department (PDD) seems reluctant to electrify thousands of government schools under Soubhagya scheme.
Sources informed Early Times that the Director Planning of School Education Department has published an order regarding Internal Electrification of schools vide order No: Edu/Plan-SE/1186/2018-19 in which Director School Education Jammu (DSEJ) has informed the Administration Secretary PDD to cover the un-electrified schools under Soubhagya Plus scheme.
The order further reads as necessary directions have been issued in form of minutes of the meeting on dated 07/02/2019 to Power Development Department and tentative cost of electrification has been approved but the PDD department seems reluctant to electrify the un-electrified schools and even to prepare DPR district wise.
Sources further said that the school education department has approved Rs 8000 per school for Primary School, Rs 20000 for Middle School, 25000 for High School and Rs 35000 for Higher Secondary School for internal electrification of remaining schools and instructed to prepare a Detail Project Report (DPR) district wise but ironically the PDD failed to prepare DPR in prescribed time frame and failed to submit report before the High Power Committee of IDFC.
It is pertinent to mention here that in the meeting of PAB meeting of financial year 2018-19, the Union government had approved electrification for 843 Elementary School and 768 Secondary Schools with worth Rs 1095.90 Lacs and Rs 4992 Lacs respectively.
"But ironically the department concerned fails to meet deadline and worth Crores rupees are still unspent", said sources while wishing anonymity.
The nonchalant attitude of education department can be gauged from this fact that despite availability of sufficient funds and incessant thrust from government, there are thousands schools still craving for electricity.
