PDP likely to spilt after poll

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Apr 26: With PDP fighting back to wall in it's strong bastion of Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency where low turnout was reported in April 23 election of Anantnag district with home town Assembly Segment of Bijbehara and Assembly constituency of Anantnag represented by PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti party is heading for another spilt after the results of Lok Sabha poll are over.
According to political Analysts Mehbooba's U turn on various contentious issues including trying to gain more proximity to Separatist camp by entering anti India rhetoric has failed to come to her rescue in elections as people have totally rejected her party's and programmes in Kashmir Valley. The political Analysts while analyzing this said low percentage of votes in Bijbehara and Anantnag Assembly segments of South Kashmir are an indication to it.
They said when Mehbooba failed to convince the voters in her home Constituency no immediate miracle could be expected from her in other three districts of Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian strongholds of Jammat.
Analysts are also of opinion that PDP failed to make any impact on the voters of other two Parliamentary Constituencies of Srinagar and Baramulla where her party is not expected to do much. This will have serious impact on PDP's chances of surviving as a political party in future also.
They said in case PDP fails to open account in Valley the party can spilt further with many ex legislators saying goodbye to it and they may shift loyalty to N C, Congress and People's Conference.
Already a good number of Ex legislators and senior leaders have left the party as they complained suffocation in it through the interference by the Mehbooba's kin who was holding an important post in the party and was behaving as number two in party. The other leaders who showed solidarity with Mehbooba seem to find no reason in staying in the party in case part fails to open account in elections in Kashmir Valley.
The analysts are of the opinion that unlike her father Mufti Mohammed Syed, who despite his party's defeat in 2008 Assembly poll failed to keep flock together.
Mehbooba's last minute bid to built Bridges with Congress too failed as Congress also did not take the inkpot and pen party seriously. Hence thinking about any alliance with Congress will not be possible as Congress leadership in case succeeds in winning one or two seats in the State will find it in more comfortable position than PDP. Moreover Congress will not like to make any distance from it's old and trusted ally NC. Analysts say going by these calculations political future of PDP is at stake in future.
