Kishtwar-Sinthan National Highway to open for LMV next week

Jammu, Apr 29: Much to the delight of the people of Kishtwar District, the prestigious Kishtwar-Sinthan top National Highway connecting Kishtwar District with summer capital Srinagar will be thrown open for the Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) at Sinthan top situated at an altitude of 12500 Feet above sea level has been completed and the pilot vehicle that leads at the forefront of snow clearance machine yesterday had reportedly cross the treachery pass upto potato forum. As per the details available with "Early Times" 84 KM road from Kishtwar to Sinthan top will be made traffic worthy with some repair work and damages including slips in next one week and the traffic will be allowed only after making full physical assessment of the road to avoid any untoward incident.
The road was closed in the last week of November 2018 following snowfall and the National Highway provides alternative road connectivity to Kashmir as the existing National Highway is presently facing worst crises due to frequent landslides and poor road surface.
There is long pending demand of the people of Chenab valley to construct 5 KM Singpora-Viloo tunnel with will shorten the distance between Srinagar and Kishtwar by around 60-65 KM out of 216 KM road upto Srinagar beside will make the road as all weather connectivity with Kashmir.
National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, a Government of India undertaking company is presently maintaining the 144 KM road stretch up to Khanbal Anantnag. The official sources said that though they are sure to make the road traffic worthy by next week, but in case of any serious demage to the surface, same will be restored by or on 15th May 2019.
They said with the improvement in weather, the blacktopping of remaining part of around 26 KM road will be started in mid of June 2019 for which the funds has already been released.
