Former PDP leader 'escorts' brother for NIA questioning

Jammu, Apr 29: A former leader of the Peoples Democratic Party accompanied his brother to New Delhi for questioning at National Investigation Agency headquarters in the national capital.
Sources said the brother of the former PDP leader was summoned by the NIA in connection with terror funding case.
Sources said the person who was summoned was worried about the questioning and that as a "morale booster" his elder brother, who was sacked from the PDP, accompanied him to New Delhi.
Sources said the politician was seen outside the NIA headquarters on the day of when questioning of his younger brother was underway and that he left the venue only when the questioning of his brother was over.
The family had tried to hide the news of NIA summon and had told their nears and dears in Kashmir that the brother duo was "out of station in connection with business trip."
But when the national media broke the story of questioning of the leader's brother, they family couldn't hide the news any further.
However the family still told the people in Kashmir that the elder brother was away for a "business meeting" whereas he actually had accompanied the younger brother who was interrogated by the National Investigation Agency on April 25.
According to the sources, the said family has been on the radar of the government for several years.
As per the sources, the man who was questioned is being linked to a case where his vehicle for used for terror activities in New Delhi. "A carpet businessman Nasir Shafi Mir of Srinagar had been apprehended by Delhi police in February 2006 from their vehicle with rupees 55 lakh and explosives," said a source.
The NIA has tightened noose around those accused of hawala transactions.
Recently Mirwaiz was questioned by the NIA whereas the family members of another senior separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani were also questioned.
Despite repeated attempts the family in question and the former PDP leader couldn't be contacted for comments.
