Articles 370, 35A protect identities of Dogras, Ladakhis
‘Ladakh people don't sell their land even to state subject holders’
4/30/2019 5:55:21 AM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 29: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have raised the pitch to revoke the Articles 370 and 35A. The Article 370 gives autonomous status to Jammu and Kashmir, while Article 35A allows the state's legislature to define permanent residents of the state.
During the past few days the top BJP leaders have been claiming that if party is voted to power it would review both these Articles and scrap them.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "The BJP leaders are behaving like dictators and are trying to establish their writ by giving such statements. It seems that they are unaware of the fact that majority of the people in Jammu and Ladakh want both these Articles to stay as these Articles have protected their identities for the past many decades."
He said that before upping the ante to revoke these vital Articles the BJP leaders should asses the ground situation. "They need to get the feedback from the ground and seek the opinion of people from Jammu and Ladakh regions," the analyst added.
He said that it was late Maharaja Hari Singh, who enacted the state subject laws to keep the outsiders at bay. The late Maharaja, he said, wanted to ensure that identity of Dogras remains intact. "Due to Arti

about scrapping these Articles”
le 370 being at place people of Jammu have been able to protect their identity. Had J&K not enjoyed special status the ethnic communities in Jammu and Ladakh regions could have become extinct by now," the analyst said.
It's in place to mention here that people in Ladakh region don't sell their land to any outsider, even if he is a state subject holder. "It seems BJP leaders have turned a blind eye towards the fact that maximum people in the Jammu and Ladakh regions want to protect their identity at any cost and they won't allow anyone to fiddle with the special status of the state," said a politician.
He said that it's unfortunate that J&K BJP leaders have failed to convey the aspirations of the people to the party top brass. "Someone needs to tell the top BJP leaders that if Articles 370 and 35A are scrapped it would have direct impact on the people of Jammu and Ladakh regions as Dogras and Ladakhis are minority communities in J&K. Very few people across the country would like to invest in Kashmir due to the uncertain situation prevailing there. So entire rush would be diverted towards these two regions. These Articles have to be protected to prevent outsiders from entering into Jammu and Ladakh regions," the politician added.
