Director Agriculture reviews arrangements for wheat procurement

Jammu, Apr 29: Director Agriculture Jammu, P. S. Rathore today reviewed arrangements for wheat (produce of Rabi 2018-19) procurement.
The modalities in this regard were finalized during deliberations wherein attention of participating officers was drawn towards smooth and timely procurement of wheat by the Food Corporation of India.
The arrangements regarding space/gunny bags, logistic support and other necessary facilities for organizing procurement mandies by the Food Corporation of India in coordination with the CA&PD and Agriculture Departments were discussed threadbare in the meeting.
Director Agriculture on the occasion directed the officers of Agriculture, CA&PD and FCI departments to select and finalize the location of procurement centres as per feasibility and catchment area in liaison with local administration and panchyat representatives.
He said that the purpose of opening these procurement centres is to save the farmers from distress sale of their produce and ensure that they get minimum support price of Rs 1840 per quintal notified by Ministry for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
He impressed upon the field functionaries to give wide publicity among the farmers regarding this procurement facility for wheat being put in place by FCI, CA&PD and Agriculture Departments. Rathore called upon the participating agencies to put a foolproof system in place through their coordinated efforts to provide maximum benefits to the farmers. It was informed in the meeting that 12 Wheat Procurement Centers (Mandies) for Jammu district, 5 for Kathua and 2 Wheat Procurement Centers for Samba are being setup this year for wheat procurement at the Minimum Support Price of Rs. 1840 per quintal.
