BJP leader hails de-limitation commission reports

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 5: Former Union Minister and BJP leader Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta said that it was soothing to hear that the Centre is mulling to have delimitation of Assembly Constituencies in Jammu & Kashmir to ensure fair representation to all the three regions of the state.
In a statement, Prof. Gupta said that since the independence of the country that Jammu & Kashmir had never a fair and timely delimitation of constituencies resulting in regional disparities. More so, numerous other problems and the slogans like that of Autonomy, Republic of Kashmir within Republic of India, Azadi and what not resulting in trouble and turmoils.
He recalled that after the end of Maharaja`s rule is wake of the Accession of the State to Indian Union, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah led dispensation took over the reins of power in the State as was desired by the Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru.
To have an elected Government in 1950, the Interim dispensation, Revenue Minister, Mirza Afzal Beig and some officers of the department in a hush hush manner carved out Assembly constituencies numbering 75, including 43 for Kashmir Valley 30 in Jammu region and only 2 for Ladakh.
Even the elected members of the Praja Sabha of the Maharaja were never consulted. Pt. Prem Nath Dogra who was a member of the Praja Sabha when raised their fingers over this despotic approach was dubbed as communal and was even jailed without any trial.
"Census and also the voters strength, it was that Jammu was ahead of Kashmir, the Farooq led N.C. Government had mysteriously amended the State Constitution putting an embargo that there would be no delimitation till 2026, which means after the census of 2031", he said, adding that the injustice could be judged that most of Assembly Constituencies in Jammu areas are having more than one lakh voters spread over large areas of Jammu West and Gandhi Nagar Assembly constituencies, where having about 1.75 lakh voters each on the contrary in the Valley there is hardly any constituency even having one lakh voters.
It is good that strong Government at the Centre had paid its attention to this important issue, which could rectify many wrongs and lead to solution to regional disparities and various other problems including that of controversial voices being raised under communal consideration and lack of National outlook.
