Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 5: Unscheduled power curtailment, severe water scarcity spoilt Eid festivities in Narwal Pain areas of Satwari Cantonment.
Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta, who is contesting upcoming Assembly elections from the Gandhi Nagar Constituency as an Independent candidate, carried forward his mass contact programme in Ward No. 1, Ward No. 7 and Market of Airport Road. He met people from all walks of life and heard the grievances of local residents. They informed him that they have been facing severe hardships since 2015 when PDP-BJP coalition government was formed.
Locals informed Munish that frequent power cuts amidst 45 degrees temperature is a blot on Power Development Department. Pesky power cuts and severe water scarcity have made our lives miserable.
"During the meeting held to take stocks of preparedness on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr by Jammu and Kashmir government it was announced that uninterrupted water supply and power would be provided to people to allow them to celebrate the festival in peace," said the residents.
They said that assurances given by the government officials remained confined to papers only. "Unscheduled power cuts and no water supply spoilt the festivities as the directions were not implemented even on the Eid day,"said Akthar Khan of Narwal Pain.
He told Munish that an overhead tank and tube well has been installed just meters away from out locality but due to non availability of potable water the overhead tank serves no purpose.
Surinder Singh said that in our lane, the PDD department's Lineman and some officials have installed illegal AC connections in the area, this has led to fluctuation of electricity making our life hell. We have time and again apprised the official regarding illegal AC connections but nobody seems bothered about it.
"Administration of Cantonment had allotted a contract to lay down pipes in Ward No.1 to a contractor. He laid the four inch pipes by replacing two inch pipes in whole mohalla but left our home untouched due to unknown reason," Darshan Lal told Munish Gupta.
Neha Devi w/o Romesh Kumar, residing just adjacent to Government Girls Middle School said that two poles one of BSNL and other is electric pole were installed just in front of her home. We repeatedly asked to PDD officials from lower rung to higher ups for relocating but our pleas fell on deaf ears. "Given the installation of pole in middle of lane we even don't park our scooter inside the premises", said Neha Devi.
Anita Devi told Munish Gupta that the main nallah which flows in front of Airport market and empty into Ranibagh main sewerage nallah is totally blocked and choked due to huge garbage and nobody from the cantonment areas come forward to unblock it.
