Early Times Report

BARAMULLA, June 5: On the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul Fitr, clashes broke out between government forces and protesters at some places in north Kashmir including in the main town of Sopore and Kupwara.
Sources told Early Times that soon after Eid prayers scores of people came out and started chanting anti India and pro freedom slogans leading to intense clashes between security forces and protesting people. The youth assembled irritated government forces by shouting pro freedom slogans which lead to an intense clashes between government forces and protesters, after which the security forces that were deployed there used tear smoke shells to disappear the protesters, said sources.
Sources said that even though the people who had come out with their children to offer Eid prayers in local mosques left the pitching spots in hurry and went back to their homes after miscreants furled Pakistani flag in the market.
However there was nothing like that which could have prompted the people to raise anti slogans but without any solid reason they took out pro freedom demonstration outside the Jamia masjid Kupwara post Eid Prayers.
Local sources said that large number of youth took out protest march from Jamia masjid towards the main market. The protesters also shouted pro freedom, Zakir Mussa slogans, they also pelted stones on forces and in response security forces fired tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters.
The government forces also fired some gunshots in air to disperse the youth, adding youth also protested in Trehgam area of this north Kashmir district.
Meanwhile there are also reports that massive clashes erupted after youths came out on the streets and waved Islamic flags in Sopore town.
Post Eid-ul Fiter prayers, the protestors chanted slogans and clashed with forces on duty in Sopore town on Wednesday. The forces in turn lobbed tear smoke shells to disperse the agitated youth. Pertinently the security was put on alert in Kashmir valley as there were reports that clashes may erupt after post Eid prayers.
