Industrial fraternity demands continuation of Lakhanpur toll tax
6/14/2019 10:52:09 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 14: Several Industrial organizations have demanded continuation of Lakhanpur toll tax to safeguard the industrial sector of the state.
According to press release, a joint emergency meeting of stakeholders of industrial fraternity of Jammu comprising Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA), Association of Industries, IGC Samba, Kathua Industrial Unit Association, Floor Miller Association, Cement Manufacture Associations, Associated Chamber of Commerce & Industries Udhampur was held today.
The meeting was held under the President-ship of Lalit Mahajan in the presence of Vijay Aggarwal, President, AOI Smaba, Sanjay Puri President of Floor Miller Association, Vinay Mahajan Vice President, KIUA, Sandeep Mittal General Secretary, Cement Manufacture Associations, Office Bearers & other Members of the Associations of Jammu Province.
During the course of discussions, members present raised serious concern in respect of repeated attempts of some vested interest people for the removal of toll tax at Lakhanpur toll post, who according to them were bent upon to destroy the industrial sector of J&K by raising their voice for the removal of Toll Tax at Lakhanpur with their ill design to allow the Import/Export of unaccounted goods in/from the state which may be resulting huge financial loss to the State exchequers as well as to the Industrial Sector of J&K working in state in spite of all the odds since last 30 years.
It was resolved in the meeting that, it was observed in past that as and when the Govt. exempted some items from the Toll tax, the benefit of the same never passed on to the consumers and in some cases the rates has not been reduced but enhanced by the companies.
The majority of the food products and fresh vegetables etc. which are being used by the common man are already exempted from the preview of Toll Tax, hence there is no justification for hue and cry raised by some persons who are trading in some goods on which the Toll tax is being deposited in crores of rupees annually.
Moreover all the products being supplied by the Domestic/Multi National Companies on MRP basis in which the Toll Tax component already included in the prices and it has been noted in past that the benefit of Toll Tax Exemption never pass on to the consumers.
It is pertinent to mention that in post GST Regime, the Import of Industrial goods from outside the State has been increased in many fold, which were being manufactured by locals by setting up of their units with the Investment of their hard earn money and running with the capacity of 25 to 30 % in post GST Regime and in case the toll tax removal, the Unit holders have no option but to close down their units which may be resulting in to the conversion of their working capital.
Due to closure of units social unrest amongst the retrenched industrial workers and other negative impact on the economy of the state and the fraternity feared that the unit holders have no option but to migrate from our State to other neighbouring States.
It was also resolved in the meeting that any move of the Govt. to withdraw the Toll Tax may be resulting into mass scale agitation by the Industrial Units along with the retrenchment of the Industrial Workers as majority of the Industrial Units have no option but the close down their units.
It was strongly resolved in the meeting that Govt. should not remove Toll Tax at Lakhanpur and the Toll Tax Exemptions should be continued in GST Regime to the Existing as well as New Industrial Units to compensate the additional transportation cost on the Raw Materials and Finished Goods.
