Early Times Report
Jammu, June 14: So much deeper has nepotism, partiality and corruption seeped into our system that even the sacred religious pilgrimages do not remain unscathed.
Scores of pilgrims have accused the Hajj Committee of employing ill- experienced, blue-eyed and those with political affluences as 'Khudam-ul-Hujjaj'- the guides who assist the pilgrimage in Holy Muslim cities of Mecca and Madina.
Khudam as per the aggrieved pilgrims should be well educated, experienced and well versed with the sacred journey. However, the pilgrims say, those selected for the job don't even remember the names of the areas in the holy cities where pilgrims have to perform certain rites.
They accuse high end corruption in the entire process by the State Hajj Committee and even demanded probe into the process behind the recruitment of these blue eyed people.
A local news gathering agency in Srinagar also reported the news. The agency claimed that the authorities are deputing non-local Hajj trainers (Khudam-ul- Hujaj) for Kashmiri pilgrims.
A Hajj trainer is supposed to be a government employee besides have taken once Hajj pilgrimage. He should also possess a couple of important certificates.
Pilgrims from Kashmir alleged that they are getting non-local Hajj trainers that add to their problems. They said that State Hajj Committee has miserably failed to train Khudam-ul- Hujaj. "They employ non-local Khudam-ul- Hujaj mostly from Bihar which is adding to difficulties of pilgrims mostly uneducated ones," they said.
They alleged that authorities have selected some blue eyed persons as Khudam-ul- Hujaj which is really very unfortunate.
"It's irony that even those persons have been selected as Khudam-ul- Hujaj who have never taken any Hajj pilgrimage. Some Khudam-ul- Hujaj have only performed Umrah. How can these people guide naïve pilgrims during Hajj," they questioned.
The Hajj aspirants also told Early Times that even during the training sessions that smelled rat in the entire process and urge the Governor to intervene. "This is highly unfortunate and unacceptable. Now this nepotism has infiltrated into the sacred religious pilgrimages as well. Nothing could be more ruthless than this," says one of the Hajj aspirant from Srinagar.
Back in the year 2017, scores of Haj piligrims in Saudi Arabia had alleged that the state government and its Hajj committee left them high and dry.
The Hajjis also complained that they had no excess to Khudams, thus their problems got compounded. There were also allegations that the government of Jammu and Kashmir didnt take up the issue seriously due which the pilgrims had to face immense difficulties in performing their religious duties there at Saudi Arabia. There were even reports that the government was not paying any heed to the hardships being faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir in that country.
