Early Times Report
Jammu, June 20: On the occasion of World Refugee Day,SOS International Chairman Rajiv Chuni has reminded the BJP-led NDA Government about its promise of constituting a National Refugee High Commission on the analogy of National Human Rights Commission so that Displaced Persons in India may get their rights. "Today is the World Refugee Day and we appreciate the concern of International Community towards refugees all over the World, but the Displaced Persons of Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir are so unfortunate that even after decades of our forced displacement from homes and hearths, we are still deprived of our due rights," he said in a statement. Chuni elaborated that PoJK Displaced persons were mainly suffering because India is not signatory to the United Nations' Refugee Law and the country has no State policy on the refugees, displaced internally or externally. Chuni added, there is no one to listen to the grievances of PoJK displaced persons with the result that three generations of the families of this community remain deprived of their human rights and even basic facilities of life. Chairman recalled that during the UPA Government, then BJP MP and present Defence Minister Rajnath Singh after his visit to the camps of PoJK DPs here, had promised formation of a National Refugee High Commission on the analogy of National Human Rights Commission for addressing the issues and grievances of Displaced Persons, if his party came to power at centre.
