| Leopard mauls 10-year-old girl to death in remote village of Reasi | | |
Reasi, June 21: Jammu: A 10-year-old girl was allegedly mauled to death by a leopard in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, June 21. Identified as Ruksana Bano, the 10-year-old was feeding cattle near her hut when she was allegedly attacked by the big cat. After Bano went missing, the locals, wildlife officials and the police launched a joint search operation and recovered Bano's body from a nearby forest area. The officials completed the legal formalities and handed the body to the deceased's family. An official said that efforts are being made to find the leopard that attacked Bano. A similar incident came to light from Uttar Pradesh in March where an eight-year-old girl was allegedly mauled to death by a leopard. The incident took place in the Baalu village which is situated near Sohelwa forest area.
Rukmini, the eight-year-old girl had gone to relieve herself when the leopard attacked her, dragged her away and mauled her to death. RK Mittal, divisional forest official said that they deployed two teams to catch the leopard. A compensation worth Rs 5 lakh was also given to the deceased's family. The officials asked the villagers to keep the courtyards of their houses adequately illuminated to ensure the safety of their children. |
