Early Times Report
Jammu, June 21: Congress party has lodged a written complaint against the former MLAs of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for "poking their nose" in the development works being carried out by the Governor's administration in Jammu region.
A Congress leader while talking to Early Times said that we have lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Secretary and the Divisional Commissioner Jammu about the former BJP MLAs cutting ribbons ahead of the black topping and other works being carried out in different areas. "They (BJP) leaders are trying to take credit for the works which the present dispensation has started. When they were in power they had no time for the constituencies they represented. Now elections are coming close and they are indulging in publicity stunts," the Congress leader said.
He alleged, "BJP leaders during their rule were busy minting money and expanding their businesses. They left no opportunity to reap the benefits of power. They ensured that their kith and kin get the Lion's share in the works allocated by the government and the jobs which were announced."
The Congress leader said, "By poking their nose in the ongoing development works BJP leaders are misusing their position as they know that the government at the Centre is being headed by their party. This blatant interference has to stop. By doing so these BJP leaders are undermining authority of Governor's office."
A municipal councilor said that the former BJP MLAs are not allowing them to do anything. "These former MLAs believe that are the kings and they can do anything. We are not being even allowed to install a streetlight in the areas where from we have won. The former MLAs are trying to take credit for everything and are out to bulldoze the grass root democratic institutions," the councilor added.
Another Congress leader said that "everyone is aware about the dismal performance of the former BJP MLAs. When they shared power with the Peoples Democratic Party they just turned a blind eye towards the issues confronting the people of their respective constituencies. They were busy building their own houses, assets and getting loans from the financial institutions. Now the elections are approaching they have reappeared on the scene."
An analyst said, "It seems that former BJP MLAs have realized that their chances are bleak this time around that's why they are grabbing the photo opportunities and are trying to score brownie points over their opponents by indulging in cheap publicity stunts."
