Early Times Report

BUDGAM, July 1: Scores of areas in Budgam district of central Kashmir are facing difficulties due to bad roads. Locals of Arath Budgam said that their area has been ignored by the former legislators, and the department concerned is least bothered about the well being of students who face difficulties to reach to their schools and colleges.
"Many times in past we appealed the department of Roads and Building (R&B) for repairing of the roads, especially of Arath, Wadvan, Roosu, Rathsun, Kanihama, and Makhama, but not attention was paid to our requests, said Bashir Ahmad of Arath Wadwan."
He said that besides roads, railway tunnel near Mazhama, and Budgam has become a nuisance for the general public especially for farmers of the area, as they under passes have not been filled by the boulders and other materials.
Sometimes we return back to our homes at 10 pm, and it gives tough time to cross the underpasses, due to the mud, water logging and darkness around it while as people are unable to cross it even during day time, said a local resident of Mazhama.
Last years the railway authorities had filled it with boulders and other required material but still the problem was not addressed, and people are facing hardships due to callous attitude of the authorities.
Yes we were told that they will repair the tunnel and will not create any sort of problem to the villagers, said a local, adding that, the roads are in bad conditions and there may remain a chance of accidents.
There is not only a pathetic condition of roads, but they are not safe for school drivers, the government has a duty to design, build and maintain safe roads as soon as possible, locals told early times.
They said that, payment has been released to the concerned authorities but one fails to understand that why macadamization of roads didn't take place till date.
