Early Times Report

Jammu, July 1: Exposing claims of developments in Jammu made by BJP-PDP and NC-Congress governments of past, the residents of Valmiki Colony, Gandhi Nagar informed Early Times last drains lines in their locality were built during Governor Jagmohan's rule.
During Early Times team's visit during Monday evening, the residents of Valmiki Colony, including Bachan Lal, Gurnam Singh, Balkar Singh, Bua Singh, Karianl Singh, Usha Devi, Kamal, Mohinder, Chaman Lal, Rockey and others said after long time someone visited to know problems being faced by us.
The residents living under life threats, as due water-logging in drains the risk of cave-in of their houses is looming over there. "It sound strange amid claims of development, in 1990 during Governor Jagmohan's rule the drains were built, unfortunately, no one bother to know our whereabouts", said resident angry over being neglected.
They said that apparently they were being denied basic civic facilities. "It is not easy to walk here after minor rain, wrong side slope of water is major cause of water logging, if heavy rain takes place filthy water enter our houses", they said.
They said that most of the water supply line had been laid along the drains, and due to water logging and damaged pipe lines they were forced to drink filthy and contaminated water. "Since we don't have any other option, we use to boil water for drinking purposes", they said and added that they have informed concerned department, about their suffering but the issue could not address yet.
The resident said that apart from drains, they are suffering un-managed electric wire in area. "You will see here and there large number of electric wire hanging without proper electric poles", they said and added that ironically, administration and the leaders 'shy' to solve our issues. For a long time there has been a container here to dump the garbage, but due to increasing traffic pressure, the same was removed, making the locality a garbage dumping site.
