Despite 24x7 power supply promises, power curtailment increase in Jammu

Jammu, July 1: The repeated claims of state government of providing round the clock power supply across the state, especially in Jammu province, have been dashed to ground as with upsurge in the mercury level, the power curtailments have also been increased exponentially.
For the last few days, power supply in metered as well as non-metered localities have been very erratic with curtailments enforced for hours together.
"The PDD has completely metered our locality along with installation of insulated wires, new transformers besides other instruments. Before metering the department had assured that after complete metering there would be round the clock power supply but such claims have proved totally false. We have been witnessing frequent power curtailments in the last few days", a resident of Gandhi Nagar locality rued.
He further said that time and again government had made tall claims of round the clock power supply and have also issued notifications but all these have been proved false as the temperature increases.
Another resident of Panjthirthi Raman Kumar said that the department has replaced the old wires with insulated wires and illegal connections have almost been removed. "We have witnessed worst power curtailments in past few days. After power supply of one hour, there is curtailment for few minutes or for half an hour or sometimes, hours together", Kumar said, adding that whenever they called on the PDD officials, they put blame on Gldni power station for curtailment.
He further said that it was almost possible to get a satisfactory reply from Gladni power station. "Firstly the contact number of Gladni is mostly out of order or if someone will pick up the call, they will pass the buck on PDD department and claimed that there is no fault on their side", he claimed, adding that despite restructuring of power supply, there was no let-up in the power curtailments. "The mercury is touching 45 degrees and without power supply, it is just like hell in the homes. Children and old age parents are the worst victims of power curtailments. Though PDD made tall claims of round the clock power supply but its complete lie", another person said, adding that Jammuities have to witness nightmares, during every summers and this summer was another one.
Due to power curtailments, the water supply to several areas has also affected as the Public Health Engineering department was not able to run their system smoothly.
An official of PDD claimed that due to fault in the supply lines from Salal hydroelectric station, power curtailments have been increased in Jammu city but it has now been restored.
