Ex Union Minister hails HM statement, demands action
7/2/2019 12:32:00 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 1: The Former Union Minister, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has hailed the statement of the Home Minister, Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha that Article 370 is a temporary provision. "The mere narration of the fact is not enough.
It needed practical steps to rectify the wrong that was inflicted decades back and this obnoxious provision still persisted in the statue book. More so, this was being used for spreading hatred and the feelings of secession and separatism resulting in complex problems", Prof. Gupta said.
Prof. Gupta, who is also the author of a book titled as "Article 370 A Thorn" pointed out that the legal luminary and the founder of the Indian Constitution, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar had declined to pilot this provision in the Constituent Assembly.
After refusal by Dr. Ambedkar, Nehru employed the services of another Minister, Gopal Swami Aggaryer to get the job done, he added and also recalled that Nehru had assured the agitated nationalists including Moulana Mohani and others that this was just a temporary measure and would wither away with the passage of time.
Prof. Gupta said that before the measures are initiated to get rid of the problems of Article 370, there is also the great need for having judicious delimitation of Assembly Constituencies which had been denied over the decades under communal, regional and parochial considerations to generate various tensions.
This fairness delimitation would lead to the solution of many complex problems created by politicians to have their aggrandisement he added and said that the people who were discriminated and ill-treated for long years see a ray of hope in the strong government at the Centre with the leaders having the knowledge that how the sad situation was created by the NC / Congress.
