'Development is still a distant dream for people of Giddar Galian'
BJP, Congress exploits residents for votes only
7/14/2019 10:39:07 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, July 14: Giddar Galian village, which is believed to be winning factor for any candidate contesting assembly elections from Gandhi Nagar constituency, has been ignored to such an extent that development is still a distant dream for the residents of the area.
Munish Gupta, Editor Early Times, who would be contesting upcoming assembly elections as an independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency, continuing his mass contact programme, today visited Giddar Galian area and met with the people.
LANES/ DRAINS
"There is a long stretch in the Giddar Galian village which has not been constructed, no tile or black topping has been done. The last time the street was constructed 15 years ago , which has now in totally dilapidated condition," said Sunil Kumar.
"BJP, Congress leaders only made empty promises to garner votes during elections and did nothing for the development of the area which is not in good condition and the major problem is lack of proper road connectivity. Our lane was constructed with tiles and later a portion of it was dismantled due to unknown reason. Even the drain along with lane was not constructed. Many parts of the village are without proper lanes which exhibit dismal picture of the area. Lack of drains in most of the area is the major cause of concern of sanitation here. The drains are in dilapidated conditions and the dirty water overflows in the streets making it muddy," alleged Jeevan Kaith, local resident, Seeta Devi, Kapoor Chand, Abhi, Sampat Prakash, Ashwani Kumar, Mohinder Singh, Shashi Bala. Chanchla Rani alleged that the funds for the construction of lanes were sanctioned but were never used and left the lanes in dismal conditions.
"Our area played vital role in ensuring winning of BJP's Kavinder Gupta and earlier Congress' Raman Bhalla but despite that our lanes were not constructed. They even didn't turn up to this area. There are three major areas which play important role in winning of any candidate including Sher Garh, Khwaskhan and Darp. The both BJP, Congress leaders became ministers in their tenure only because of this area but they did nothing for the development of our area," said Mani Ram, Devi Dass, Ravinder Singh.
POJK REFUGEES
Shamsher Singh expressed his anguish on the Revenue Department Digiana and alleged that there are ten refugee compensation files in the department which have not been cleared by the official concerned, which are still lying with the concerned Naib Tehsildar. "We are West Pak refugees of 1947 and recently centre government had ordered compensation for refugees but the department has been creating hurdles and not clearing our files. There are ten families in our village who have applied for the compensation," said Shamsher Singh.
HANDICAPPED PENSION
"My only son, who is 5 years old is handicapped and can't move on his own. We are living in poverty as we have no source of income. We filled forms with Social Welfare Department for the pension and financial assistance but there is no help from the government side," said Kiran Bala. She further said that her mother Rattano Devi, who is also old and handicapped, used to get pension but it has been six months that her pension has been stopped without any reason.
PDD
"Power Development Department has not installed electric poles in our lanes and due to which we have to take connection from a long distance. I requested the concerned officials for resolving my problem but they didn't bother to help me. The area is also facing huge low voltage problem as the transformer installed in the area is of low capacity and current fluctuation continues all the day. Electronic appliances don't work properly and sometime damage them," alleged Rajesh Kumar, Vicky, Tirlok Singh, Vivek.
"The electric pole is placed in our premises and we tried a lot for its removal. Many applications were moved but department didn't budge an inch. We have been facing very difficultly as already there is scarcity of space in my premises," said Joginder.
TRANSPORTATION
FACILITY
The residents of Giddar Galian area have been facing problem of lack transportation facility. "The area has no public transportation facility due to which we have to face huge difficulty to commute from our village to city. The main hardship is being faced by the girl students who had to go city for education on daily basis but due to lack of transport, huge time is wasted in commuting from one place to other. We hesitate to send our girls due to its absence. Modi's slogan of "Beti Padao, Beti Bachano" seems to be defeated in our area where girls find no transportation and parents hesitate to send them out of village for education," said Rani Devi, Karanjit Kour.
WIDENING OF ROAD
Tanveer Singh alleged that the road has not been widened in the village due to which they can't park their vehicles at their home. "There was a plan of widening of road and for that we gave our land and got it widened of 12 feet but other residents who had initially promised to the give land for its widening so that everybody be benefited but later they denied to do so due to which the road couldn't be widened. "PWD had also promised to widen and for its blacktopping which could not be happened," he said.
VETERINARY DISPENSARY
"There was veterinary dispensary in our village but suddenly it was shifted to Khwaskhan area in a rented building. The shocking thing is that the department had its own piece of land in village Giddar Galian where department could have constructed its own building but due to unknown reason it was shifted," said Kulwant Singh.
DAMAGED HOUSE
"Our house is collapsed due to rains and we are not able to repair it, we sought for government help but nothing happened. We are very poor and can't afford cost of its repair. Despite poverty, we have not been issued BPL cards and unable to get cheap rations.
