PDP opposes strengthening of VDCs in Kishtwar
7/14/2019 10:41:23 PM
Early Times Report
Kishtwar, July 14: The People's Democratic Party on Sunday accused the Centre and the J&K governments of strengthening the RSS in the state by creating fresh Village Defence Committees (VDCs) which is "aimed at creating imbalance between the two communities" in communally sensitive Kishtwar district.
Addressing a press conference here, PDP spokesperson and former MLC Firdous Ahmed Tak said his party opposes strengthening of VDCs and installation of bunkers in Kishtwar, and threatened agitation in case the Union government did not roll back the VDCs.
Tak said that RSS members "are being provided weapons under the grab of VDCs." He gave a three-day ultimatum to district administration Kishtwar to stop issuing fresh weapons to the people of a particular community in the adjoining village of Kishtwar town. He also calls for protest demonstration on July 19, adding that on the name of counterinsurgency grid, RSS-backed people are being provided with weapons.
He said that the villages where the VDCs are being created include Panditgam, Kuleed, Zelna, Zewar, Baralgam, Tund and Bemarnag. In addition, he said more than 1000 VDC members are active in the district.
Meanwhile, reacting to the remarks of PDP spokesman, former minister and BJP general secretary Sunil Sharma said providing arms to the VDC members is not aimed at strengthening a particular community "but to strengthen the nationalist people."
Sharma said the people of Kishtwar have "welcomed the decision of installation of bunkers as same is for the security of the common people." He said BJP will continue to take all possible steps that will bring an end to militancy in Jammu and Kashmir including Chenab valley. "We will not sleep till we bury the militancy and the militants, Sharma said.
To a question on delay in arresting the culprits involved behind the killings of BJP leader Anil Parihar, his brother Ajeet Parihar, RSS leader Chanderkant Sharma and his PSO, Sunil Sharma said that they are hopeful that NIA and Kishtwar police will unmask the killers involved behind the gruesome murders. He said that NIA is a reputed investigating agency and people must repose faith in it.
