7/15/2019 12:09:29 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, July 14: The Kontwara area in Drabshalla tehsil of Kishtwar district is totally a secluded area with people facing lack of basic amenities.
The people of this belt face neglect and the area is deprived of development even after 70 years of independence.
There is no proper road link to area and people have to walk miles together. Even the pregnant women and patients suffering from cronic diseases die on way to hospital said Mohammad Akram a local resident.
He said there is no facility of higher secondary school and health centre in this entire belt. The patients are to be taken to Kishtwar Hospital which is 25 km away from the area.
He said the children have to go for secondary school education to a far off area.
The area though a Kandi belt, the people are not given ration on BPL rates even as maximum people belong to BPL category.
The ration on Government ration depots is sold at higher rates.
The people said the construction of road in the area was started a decade back but is still incomplete.
The bridge over river Chenab has not been constructed while piers have been constructed and later work was abandoned, said Sanjay Parihar, local Sarpanch.
He said no steps have been taken by Government to protect a village from land erosion. The half of the village has been washed away. But the district administration has failed to protect the remaining houses in the village.
Parihar has urged the Government to take immediate steps in starting protection work to safeguard the remaining houses.
