Whistle blowers face ire at State Motor Garages department, get attached

Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 28: The people at helm in Jammu and Kashmir have made it a point to take punitive action against the people who come up as whistle blowers in a particular department. In many of the cases these employees are suspended and in others they are transferred to far off places.
Four employees of State Motor Garages Department were recently attached with the transport department and State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) workshop at Jammu. While two employees were attached with Department of Transport, Civil Secretariat, two others were attached with workshop of SRTC at Jammu.
Sources told Early Times that the sole reason for the punitive action is that these people raised voice against the illegal suspension of some employees of the department almost a month back. Although this order was rescinded the whistle blowers of the department had to face the wrath from the department higher ups.
"The whistle blowers raised a banner of revolt after the employees were suspended. They took pot shots at the action since the suspension was ordered at 4:33 PM, three minutes after the scheduled closure of the government offices in the Kashmir division. This did not go well with the higher ups of the department and they recommended for attachment of whistle blowers," said sources.
The employees (whistle blowers) who have been attached are Kaisar Sidiq Banday (Head Assistant), Sajad Hamid Dar (Senior Assistant), Showkat Ahmad Pandow (Mechanic) and Farooq Ahmad Munjguroo (Fitter). Kaisar and Sajad have been attached with Department of Transport, Showkat and Farooq have been attached with SRTC workshop at Jammu.
"In the interest of administration following officials of State Motor Garages Department are attached in the Department/Office shown against each other with immediate effect," reads the government order 51-TR of 2019 dated 22-7-2019. The order has been issued by Principal Secretary, Transport Department.
The whistle blowers had raised their objection over the suspension of Abdul Hamid Dar, Mohammad Ayoub Rather, Ashiq Hussain Reshi, Sabeena Majeed and Zarka Firdous. These employees were suspended on July 2, 2019.
"Pending enquiry into the matter, the following officers/officials of this department are placed under suspension with immediate effect," reads the government order 235-DSMG of 2019 dated 02-07-2019. Following objection by the whistle blowers the suspension order was rescinded, but at the cost of attachment of the whistle blowers.
"Basically the higher ups of the department are frustrated by the merge of the ministerial and technical employee associations of the department. They have taken punitive action against the office bearers of both the associations and want to create a wedge among the employees of the department," said sources.
