Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 31: The schools located in the far-off places in Jammu & Kashmir have a very poor student-teacher ratio as at some places a single teacher is found imparting education to 100 or more students.
However, there are some schools in the Kashmir valley where the ratio is very favourable with number of teachers outnumbering the number of students. There are some of the schools where the number of teachers is equivalent to the number of students.
Sources told Early Times that some of the schools located at the fringe of the summer capital of the state are showing more than positive student-ratio with wives of high profile personalities discharging their duties at these schools. These schools are located in the proximity of the Srinagar airport and fall in the Budgam district.
"Forty seven (47) teachers are posted in these schools to 159 students. These teachers are posted in the primary as well as middle schools of the Budgam district but fall close to the end of Srinagar municipal limits. These teachers are entitled to the House Rent Allowance as received by the teachers of Srinagar district," said sources.
Sources said that Middle School Humhama has a roll of 56 students and the number of teachers in place is 16. They said that at Middle School Gogoo 16 teachers have been posted for 83 students.
"At Primary School Matibagh, Humhama the total roll of students is 10 and for these 10 students eight teachers have been placed at the school. Primary School Bagandar, Humhama has a roll of 10 students as well and for these students seven teachers have been posted there," said sources.
Sources said that since the primary schools have been clubbed 15 teachers have been posted to teach 20 students. They said that on the other side the schools located in this Central Kashmir district are facing shortage of teachers since the teachers are not posted in these schools in the adequate number.
"Some of the teachers use influence and as such manage to stay away from posting in the far off areas of the district. Despite many claims the people at helm have failed to address the issue and as such the students in the villages and far-off areas continue to suffer on the educational front," said sources.
It would be in place to mention here that despite issuance of orders and circulars there are many teachers who continue to remain attached with the schools located in the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir.
