| Two toll plazas on Jammu-Pathankot Highway ill conceived move: Manohar | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 2: Former minister & President DCC Dr Manohar Lal Sharma today slammed National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and NDA government over establishing two toll plazas one at Lakhanpur in Kathua district and another at Thandi Khui in Samba district.
Dr Sharma in a statement issued said that the move will hit common man hard as he will have to shell out Rs 130 at Thandi Khui alone (in case of a car) while travelling on the Jammu-Pathankot route despite a new road cess of Rs 8 per litre has also been introduced by the government. Manohar also criticized National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), for sharp hike in toll tax at Ban Toll Plaza between Jammu and Katra-Udhampur recently and demanded abolition of such a tax saying that the general public is already frustrated paying Toll in spite of paying Road Tax, Income Tax, Service Tax, Sales Tax and many more taxes.He also lambaste NDA government at centre by saying that this is the gift from BJP to people of Jammu district who have given heavy mandate to BJP in recently parliamentary elections. Dr Sharma alleged that for the last hardly two years, three times hike has been effected in toll tax at Ban which is highly unjustified and excess load on the general public.
He alleged that State Government and its administration is least bothered over the issue. The public is being forced to pay exorbitant tax. Manohar disclosed that on the one hand State Governor has announced that State Government will reduce the Toll Tax in Kashmir Division and also planning to abolish Toll-Tax from the civilians but on the other hand Toll Tax in Jammu region from Toll Plaza Ban Jammu has been increased to Rs 200 just for cars/jeeps etc.
He further expressed that we welcomed the announcement of Governor to abolish Toll Tax in Kashmir Division but why not the same announcement for Jammu region people. |
