| Militant killed, jawan martyred in encounter in Shopian | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 2 : A militant was killed and a soldier was martyred in an encounter between the security forces and the ultras in Shopian district on Friday, Army said. A cordon-and-search operation was launched in Pandoshan area of the south Kashmir district after a tip-off about the presence of militants there. An encounter followed after the militants fired upon the search party, an official said.n "One terrorist, Zeenat-ul-Islam, a resident of Memender area of Shopian, has been killed in the Pandoshan operation," an Army official said. During the operation, a soldier - Sepoy Rambir of 34 Rashtriya Rifles - was also killed. Last week two Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists were gunned down by security forces posted at the Bonbazar area of Shopian district. The encounter occurred after terrorists opened fire at the security forces who had reached the location. After the encounter, a cordon and search operation was performed by a joint team of Indian Army's 23 Para and special operations group (SOG) Shopian. As the forces approached the location, terrorists opened fire on them, triggering an encounter. |
