4 stone crushing units fined heavily for breaching legal provisions

Jammu, Aug 4 Four stone crushing units of Kathua district near here were on Sunday imposed heavy penalties ranging from Rs 76.69 lakh to Rs 2.71 crore for violating various legal provisions related to stone mining, an official said.
The four stone crushing units were fined after a team led by Kathua Deputy Commissioner Raghav Langer inspected various such units in the district and found four of them having stored huge quantity of stones, technically known as minor minerals, in their premises in violation of various legal provisions, an official spokesperson said.
The authorities imposed a fine of Rs 2.71 crore on Messrs Raavi Stone Crusher at Keerian Gandial village, of Rs 76.69 lakh on Messrs Narsingh Stone Crusher at Langerial village and a cumulative penalty of Rs 1.29 on Jagdambay Stone Crusher and R S Screening, both located at village Chadwal.
The erring units were directed to deposit their fines immediately and warned of strict action under rules in case they fail to comply with the order, the spokesman said.
The stone crushing units were found violating various provisions of J&K Minor Minerals Concession, Storage, Transportation of Minerals and Prevention of Illegal Mining rules, an official spokesman said.
