Misleading people about revocation of RTI
Revenue official from Thathri to face action
8/4/2019 11:00:12 PM
Early Times Report
DODA, Aug 4: The Revenue Department official from Thathri Doda who had misled an RTI applicant by telling him Right to Information Act (RTI) had been repealed in state on the direction of PM will be facing action as DC Doda is said to have initiated departmental inquiry against him.
The official who works as Girdawar in local Tehsil office is incharge of RTI section and is responsible for disposing off RTI related cases in the Tehsildar's office.
RTI Activists had alleged that an official in Tehsil Office Thathri of district Doda district namely Mohammad Ashraf (Girdawar) had told an RTI applicant namely Mohammad Tayyab Ganai that RTI law has been repealed by Govt of India when the person had gone to collect information from the office under RTI Act.
"A rumour is being spread by some corrupt officials who don't want to share information with public under RTI. In view of the recent amendments in Central RTI Act 2005, Govt officials in J&K are trying to create such an atmosphere that will make people believe that RTI law has been repealed. When the information seeker Mohammad Tayyab told Girdawar in Tehsil Office Thathri to show order in this regard , the official had nothing to say. We have taken up the issue with DC Doda who has assured to investigate the same," said Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat Chairman JK RTI Movement.
Tayyab a resident of Jangwar Tehsil Phagsoo of Doda had filed an RTI application in SDM Office Thathri more than 25 days back to get details of compensation paid under PMGSY for road project Thathri to Dadi Kathwara. Some part of the application was forwarded to Tehsil office where the official in-charge of RTI section allegedly tried to mislead the information seeker when he had gone to his office on Tuesday.
The Govt of India amended the RTI Act 2005 recently. The said law is not applicable in J&K state except for central Government departments as JK state has its own RTI law called J&K RTI Act 2009. Under new amendments information seekers can very much seek information under even central RTI Act 2005. Only thing is that there is a fixed tenure, rank/status and remuneration of Information Commissioners which will now be decided by Govt of India.
