Promise fulfilled: Ram Madhav tweets old photo of PM Modi with scrap Article 370 in background
8/5/2019 6:26:07 PM

New Delhi , Aug 5
After home minister and BJP chief Amit Shah announced the government's move on Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav tweeted an undated photo of a young Narendra Modi with a banner which said 'Remove 370, end terrorism...' in the background. Madhav captioned the photo 'Promise fulfilled'.

Lauding the government on its decision, Madhav earlier had tweeted, "What a glorious day. Finally d martyrdom of thousands starting with Dr Shyam Prasad Mukharjee for compete integration of J&K into Indian Union is being honoured and d seven decade old demand of d entire nation being realised in front of our eyes; in our life time.Ever imagined?"

After days of speculation following the deployment of troops in Kashmir, cancelling the Amarnath Yatra, evacuation of tourists and finally placing state leaders under house arrest, the government finally made the announcement. It also clarified Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir will now be Union Territories.

The government of India left no stone unturned to not only make sure that the promise becomes reality, but also with security to curtail any possible instance of violence, following the announcement.

From internet services to landlines, communication links were snapped in the Valley, prior to the big announcement. Even possible protests by state leaders, that could instigate the masses, were curtailed as prominent local politicians like Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah were put under house arrest.

Scrapping Article 370 of the Constitution has been one of the pet issues for the BJP, repeated in all its election manifestos.

However, while the government is being lauded for revoking special status from Jammu and Kashmir, there are several who are against the decision and lament the move
