Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 10: Like central leadership, state unit of Congress is also divided on the issue of abrogation of Article 370 because party leaders have failed to present a united face.
Credible sources said that on Saturday a group of Congress leaders had announced to hold protest against abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of J&K. "Instead of supporting those who had organized protest, most of the senior leaders preferred to skip the event", sources said and added that majority of the Jammu based Congress leaders finding it difficult to muster guts to come out openly against decision of the Union Government.
Credible sources said that a group of party leaders have suggested that opposing decision of the Union Government at this point of time would be proved disastrous for the party because majority of the people in Jammu have supported abrogation of Article 370.
At national level the Congress was battling a rash of rebellion in the party after leaders broke party line to back the government on the Jammu and Kashmir bill and the move on Article 370.
The Congress was found sloppily running in different directions as the government rode on a high tide passing the historic bills on Jammu and Kashmir. What came as a huge embarrassment for the party was the self-goal by Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury in the Lok Sabha. In a shocker, Chowdhury questioned how was Kashmir was an internal issue when the UN had been monitoring since 1948.
The simmering discontent over the party's stand burst out on social media. Veteran leader Janardan Dwivedi, Anil Shastri, Deependra Hooda, UP MLA Aditi Singh and Ranjeet Ranjan voiced their opinion lauding the Centre's move to abrogate Article 370 and bifurcate the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories.
Veteran leader Dr Karan Singh and his son Vikramaditya Singh, who was Congress candidate on Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat had also supported Union Governent's move.
