| Traffic Management Plan: Kathua admin holds deliberations with stakeholders | | |  Early Times Report
KATHUA, Sept 24: For smooth flow of traffic and to avoid road accidents in Kathua town, the Kathua District Administration today held deliberations with the stakeholders to devise a policy for Traffic Management and diversion after weighing every view point.
Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Raghav Langer chaired the meeting attended by senior civil and Police functionaries, besides representatives of transport unions, civil society and experts.
The DC said that consensus among various stakeholders regarding Traffic Management and Diversion must be achieved for finalization of Traffic Management and Diversion Plan (TMP).
Separate designated parking spaces, pick up and drop points, halt points and line marking on roads are few steps if initiated can prevent traffic chaos, the DC said.
SSP Traffic Rural, M L Kaith, proposed diversions for Buses, Mini Buses, Autos and Trucks to ease congestion.
He informed that traffic at major intersection points of the city like Shaheedi Chowk and Mukherjee Chowk will be regulated through Traffic Police personnel and parking along the roads will not be allowed as it causes congestion on roads.
The representatives of Transport unions called for designating a specific area as Mini Bus Stand.
They also sought toilet and drinking water facility for Bus Drivers and conductors. Separate area for parking of Trucks was also demanded. Different diversion plans were also suggested by civil society representatives.
Media persons who were also invited for threadbare discussions also presented their views regarding Traffic management in the city.
VP, MC Kathua, stressed on starting transport service to areas lacking the same.
Later, the DC along with SSP Traffic Rural and other concerned officers visited all the important road intersections of the city to have firsthand account of traffic position and to check how traffic management plan can be formulated for such spots. |
