Horticulture Deptt organises awareness camp

RAMBAN, Sept 27: Horticulture Department Ramban organised one day awareness programme at block Gandhari.
The awareness programme was presided over by the Chief Horticulture Officer (CHO), Ramban, M.K.Sharma which was attended by Horticulture Development Officer , Batote, Ronak Kumar, Sarpanches of Gandhari, Kabi, Bhatni, Panches, Progressive Farmers and other officials of the Department.
The participants were apprised about the programmes launched by the Government for the betterment of the farming community.
The importance of soil testing, conservation of water, orchard sanitation, activities for doubling farmer's income, efficient packaging and marketing was discussed in detail.
It was informed by the local Sarpanch that the Gandhari and Kabi panchayats are doing organic farming and are producing organic vegetables. CHO, Ramban advised them to go in for certification under PGS India scheme.
They were informed that the department shall give each and every support information and registration under the PGS-India Certification. The certification shall help the fruit producers in getting extra income by marketing organic fruit which is having huge demand.
The women participants were advised to form self help groups for processing of fruit as the area is known for the production of Apple, Quince and Anardana.
Later a rally was also organised under 'Swaachata Hi Seva' programme in which all the participants asserted to keep their surroundings clean and not to make use of plastic.
