Govt to probe encroachment of Pandit properties in Kashmir
9/27/2019 10:07:12 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 27: In a significant development, the Modi government is likely to order probe into the encroachments of the immovable property left behind by Kashmiri Pandits in their homeland.
Highly placed sources in New Delhi told Early Times that the central government is looking into prospects of initiating a probe into the land grab and other similar encroachments as have taken place in Kashmir since the Pandit community was forced to leave the valley in early 1990s when militant outfits like Hizbul Mujahideen had issued "death warrants" against the members of the minority community.
Sources said the government has got access to several complaints backed by credible evidence. Such evidence includes satellite images of the area that clearly show that the Pandit property was illegally grabbed after their forced migration, following atrocities including arson, rapes and killings.
Sources said in one particular case from north Kashmir, it has been established from satellite images that the large chunk of agricultural land left behind by a Pandit family has been encroached upon and that over the years a full-fledged housing colony has come up at the site in less than two decades.
"Scores of houses have come up on that piece of land… This is a serious case and what pinches one the most is that it is not the only case but only the tip of the iceberg," said one official in know of the matter.
Sources said that while over the years such cases had been lying unheard, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has resolved to deliver justice to the displaced Pandit community on every front and one every complaint.
The Union Home Ministry is understood to be looking into how the redress long pending grievances of the Kashmiri Pandit community, including loot and plunder of their property left behind in Kashmir.
What has come as a shot in the arms to such plans to deliver justice is the meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with members of the Pandit community in the United States.
Sources said the Pandit community conveyed it to the PM that they want justice in their forced migration from Kashmir and that only a strongman like Modi can do it.
"Modi Hai To Mumkin hai," said a Kashmiri Pandit, awaiting justice for thirty years.
Despite repeated attempts the concerned couldn't be contacted for comments.
