Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 2: To mark the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi, J&K State Pollution Control Board, Jammu organized a cleanliness drive involving "Shramdaan" and awareness activities, in the office complex of SPCB, Jammu, for keeping the sphere of work neat and clean and removing garbage from its premises.
The 'Swachh Karyalaya' (Clean Workplace) drive was organized under the direct supervision of Member Secretary, SPCB, Brij Mohan Sharma, on the directions of Chairman, J&K, SPCB, Suresh Chugh.
Addressing the employees of SPCB, Regional Director, Jammu, Dr. Syed Nadeem Hussain urged them to keep their surroundings clean and free their houses, offices and work space from single use plastic. Drawing their attention to the hazardous effects of such plastic for the environment, and for the health of animals and aquatic life, he appealed them to use cloth or jute bags.
He asked them to collect all the plastic waste from their surroundings and to ensure its safe disposal at an identified place not only during the 'Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan' but as a matter of routine in their day to day lives.
Scientist, Anuradha Gupta, gave a demonstration on using simple plastic bins and drums to prepare manure at the offices and individual households.
The employees of State Pollution Control Board, Jammu vowed that they will spare at least one to two hours in a week, in addition to their routine office work, to contribute towards this noble mission of "Clean India, Green India." The campaign was attended by all the Divisional Officers, Scientists and Field Officers.
