Work on construction of bunkers going on at snail's pace in Balakote

Poonch, Oct 2: Lives of border dwellers particularly who were living near the fence along LoC in Balakote tehsil of Sub division Mendhar have become hell due to continuous shelling and in discriminate firing from across the border by Pakistan which affects a dozens of villagers sources said here today.
Sources said that Pakistan has been targettign civilian areas from across the border and a number of casualities take place in a routine but protective measures taken for the border people were being done at snail's pace, they added.
Rural development department had sanctioned 135 bunkers for the protection of the people in Balakot but the construction has been going on only 58bunkers sources said, adding out of than 27 bunkers have reached to the level of slabbing process but no other work including electricity and other fittings were made leaving them unable to use, while others were under construction which goes on with a very slow pace. Balakote youth front chairman Zaheer Khan while talking to Early Times said that concrete bunkers were necessity of border people at this point of time when Pakistan was targetting civilian areas in its constant ceasefire violations. We appeal to Government that the consturction work of the bunkers be speed up for the larger interests of people living just close to line of control.
Meanwhile Block development officer Balakot Ibran Mirza said that due to constant shelling from acorss the border the construction work was delayed for sometime. We are committed to complete the construction work so that the people affected due to border shelling leave a sign of relief at earliest, he added.
