Sikh organizations hail centre Govt’s decision

Jammu, Oct 2: A joint press conference of various Sikh Organisations held today at Jammu. In the Press Conference the Panthic Morcha, Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), Sikh Noujwan Sabhas, Sikh Student Federation International, Sikh Student Federation Jammu and various other Sikh organisations hailed the decision of Government of India to commute the death sentence of S. Balwant Singh Rajoana who was convicted for the assassination of former Chief Minister of Punjab Late S. Beant Singh, to the life imprisonment. He will now undergo life imprisonment instead of going to gallows.
While addressing the press conference the Sikh leaders also welcomed the decision of freeing eight Sikh prisoners by the Government of India on the occasion of 550th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Sahib Ji a humanitarian gesture. This is a great goodwill gesture of the present Government of India and particularly the Ministry of Home Affairs on whose recommendation the death penalty has been converted to life imprisonment and release of other Sikh prisoners. This action will act as an ointment on the wounds of community and the entire community is appreciating this action of Government of India. This will be the great tribute to the Great Guru who always preached peace and peaceful coexistence of all mankind. The prominent those who were present were Jathedar Mohinder Singh, Jathedar Manmohan Singh and S. Avtar Singh Khalsa, Members DGPC Jammu, Advocate Surinder Singh, Ex-President, DGPC Jammu, S. Suchwant Singh, Retd. Director, S. Balwant Singh, Ex Sarpanch, Senior Sikh Leader, S. Harmenon Singh, Secretary, International Sikh Students Federation, S. Narinder Singh Khalsa, Senior Sikh Leader, S. Manjeet Singh Bittu, S. Khushdeep Singh Guddu, Babu Singh, Surinder Singh and others.
