Early Times Report
srinagar, Dec 3: With the bifurcation of the Jammu and Kashmir into J&K and Ladakh Union Territories having taken place, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) is planning a massive makeover of the party's chapter of the erstwhile state.
Sources said the BJP has started working on a plan to bifurcate its state chapter into two separate chapters one each dedicated to Jammu and Kashmir and the other to Ladakh.
Sources said the two UT will have separate state heads for the BJP apart from other office bearers in the party.
A meeting is this regard is likely to be held in the national capital later this month, followed by meetings in the twin UTs. Sources said two of the senior leaders of BJP Ram Madhav and Avinash Rai Khanna will play a key role in deciding about the architecture of the new organizational structure to be adopted in the twin UTs.
Sources said during his recent visit to Kashmir, Avinash Rai Khanna has already apprised the regional leadership about the prospective changes in the organizational structure.
It was reliably learnt the party will also go for a fresh membership drives in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh areas with the leaders from the regions being asked to "prove their leadership quality by enrolling as many new members as possible."
A senior BJP leader told Early Times that the performance of the cadres in the UTs would have to be "analyzed afresh on new scale." "The working of the party in the Union Territory is supposed to be different from that of a state and thus a new lease of life is to be infused in the party as its leaders will have to take people towards new opportunities," said a senior BJP leader on the condition of anonymity.
