Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 3: A police officer in district Kathua has reportedly slapped a taxi-driver repeatedly in front of his family members and full public glare and later confiscated the documents, imposed fine for almost no fault of the gullible driver.
The taxi-driver later went to register an FIR against the officer and when police refused he knocked the door of court but despite orders from court, the police have refused to register case and took action against the erring officer.
According to sources, a taxi driver had on his way home in his taxi, on one evening of the last week of November and when he reached near the Kathua Court complex, he had to stop for a while as a rider had stopped his motorcycle in front of the road.
"The area along court complex is very congested and often led to traffic snails. As the taxi-driver was repeatedly asking the motorcycle rider to remove the motorcycle as it led to jamming in the area, a police officer whose vehicle was just behind the taxi, came out of the vehicle and repeatedly slapped him in full public glare as well as in front of the child of the taxi driver who had seated next to him", sources informed, adding that the slapping left taxi driver totally confused and in rage.
The ordeal of taxi driver didn't end here and the police officer went on to confiscate the keys of taxi as well as documents. "The police officer was de-board by the driver at Police lines and the taxi-driver followed them to take back his documents but he had to return back as police officer was mulling to legalize the unlawful act", sources said, adding that the taxi-driver was asked to report in the morning and was handed over a copy of challan.
The gullible taxi-driver went to nearby police station and narrated the ordeal but the police personnel expressed their inability to lodge an FIR. The taxi-driver later narrated the ordeal to an advocate, who secured a court order for the police to lodge the complaint of the taxi-driver against the erring police officer.
