Jammu boys, girls win volleyball titles

JAMMU, Dec 18: District Jammu was declared champion of the 31st J&K Junior Volleyball Championship, organised by Volleyball Association of J&K in coordination with J&K Excise Department and J&K Sports Council, which culminated at Indoor Complex, M A Stadium, here on Wednesday.
In boys category, the final match was played on Wednesday, wherein District Jammu defeated Baramulla District by 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-13) while District Jammu outplayed Udhampur by 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-14) in girls final.
In the closing ceremony, Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary, Youth Services and Sports Department, J&K was the Chief Guest, who appreciated the efforts of Volleyball Association of J&K, Excise Department and J&K Sports Council for organizing magnificent three-day championship, in which over 300 players/officials took part and inspired younger generation towards sports and drug de-addiction activities.
Transport Commissioner J&K, Dr Owais Ahmad, the Guest of Honour, lauded the organizers for making the mega championship result oriented besides dissemination effectively the key massage of healthy sports-a key for overall development of youth.
Excise Commissioner, J&K, M Raju distributed trophies and medals among the winner and runner-up teams as well as certificates of participation to all participants.
Rachit Bhau of Jammu District boy's team was adjudged as the Best Player of the Tournament and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 5,000 by the Excise Commissioner.
Naseem Javid Choudhary, Secretary, J&K Sports Council was also the Guest of Honour on the occasion.
Earlier, General Secretary of VAJK, V K Magotra welcomed the dignitaries and disclosed that 15 teams, in boys and seven in girls sections, drawn from 15 districts of J&K UT participated in the championship, intermingled, exchanged their views and fostered the spirits of sport and communal harmony besides giving assurance to spread ideals of the championship in every nook and corner of J&K UT.
The Chief Guest and Guests of Honour were presented mementoes by office bearers of VAJK.
The officer bearers of VAJK Raj Daluja, Patron-in-Chief; Sidharth Daluja President; Kuldeep Magotra Chief Executive Officer, H S Gill Executive Vice President, Raj Guru, Madan Lal Toofan and Abdul Ahad Shah Vice Presidents, R C Sharma Treasurer along with office bearers of various other sports associations also graced the function.
Ravi Singh Divisional Sports Officer, Satish Gupta Manager J&K Sports Council, sports lovers and students witnessed the finals with keen interest.
Today's matches were officiated by Amarjeet Singh, Manik Nargotra, Neeraj Sharma, Shubam Sharma, Kuldeep Sharma, Rajesh Verdi and D K Raina under the technical guidance of Rajeev Dogra, senior SAI Volleyball Coach.
