GAD weakens RTI Act, hides mobile numbers of PIOs, FAA from website
12/21/2019 11:41:35 PM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 21: The non seriousness approach of the General Administration Department (GAD) towards Right to Information (RTI) Act can be gauged from the fact that it has not given the mobile numbers of its Public Information Officers and 1st Appellate Authority on its website.
Sources told Early Times that the act of GAD for not proving mobile numbers of PIOs and FAA seems to be clear attempt of weakening the RTI Act, which is mandatory as per RTI guidelines to make available the personal contact numbers.
The GAD, which deals with administrative affairs of all departments, is itself violating RTI Act rules. In one such case, when RTI applicant sought information under RTI Act from GAD in September, 2019 on some subject, didn't get reply and when applicant tried to contact the PIOs of the department, he couldn't get their mobile numbers as the official website of GAD had provided only landline phone numbers instead, they said.
Astonishingly, when applicant contacted on the given landline numbers on website, he found that the numbers were of the Secretariat Control Room due to which he couldn't contact the desired persons which categorically shows that the hiding mobile numbers of PIOs, FAA from website it deliberate attempt to discourage RTI applicant, they informed.
Not only this, the reply received by the RTI applicant from the GAD was weird wherein it was mentioned that the RTI has been moved to other wing and an official has been deputed for the job but it has been more than two months, the reply has not yet been sent by the department.
Generally, majority of departments have mentioned mobile numbers and email addresses of PIOs and FAA of their respective departments on their official websites but the same has not been applied by the GAD.
