Need to change mindset of farmers for natural farming
12/22/2019 10:22:51 PM
Vinod Chandrashekhar Dixit

There is a long history of organic farming in India. In India, Organic farming is not an unusual method, it is used from the ancient time by the Indian culture. Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat deserves praise for propagating Zero Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF) in Gujarat as he has done in Himachal Pradesh since 2015. Zero Budget' here refers to zero net cost of production of all crops, which means that farmers don't have to buy fertilizers and pesticides to ensure the healthy growth of crops.
Currently, population growth is a major problem in this fast growing world. With an increase in population, the need of food is also increasing rapidly. To fulfill the human consumption of food, production is raised by using various chemical fertilizers, the use of toxic pesticides on farming, and hybrid are used. This will lead to an adverse effect on the health of Human beings and also nature. Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat had adopted the practice on 200 acres of Gurukul School in Haryana's Kurukshetra about nine years ago, when he was the principal there. He drew the inspiration from Padma Shri recipient and agriculturist Subhash Palekar. Kudos to Padma Shri Subhash Palekar, the originator of Zero Budget Natural for arranging number of workshops in villages of Saurashtra in Gujarat which has really helped change the mindset of farmers to go for organic farming.
Since 1990, the market demand for organic products has increased significantly in the whole world. Uses of organic fertilizers will helpful in achieving more and more yield which keep the land, water, air and environment pollution free as there is no use of any type of chemicals. Which further leads to better health of all organism including the human beings. It ensures optimum utilization of natural resources for short-term benefit and helps in conserving them for future generation. It not only saves energy for both animal and machine, but also reduces risk of crop failure.
With a change in climate, there is need of farming which is based on nature and is not harmful to the environment. According to this principle, "only scientific knowledge is not enough to manage and maintain the organic farming. It is the practical experience, traditional knowledge of farming, a wisdom of person, and the good practices of livestock farming or animal husbandry that plays an important role in successful organic farming. The main purpose of ZBNF is to eliminate the use of chemical pesticides and use biological pesticide instead
