Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 22: The people living in far flung areas of Kishtwar District are still without electricity since last 10 days that got snapped due to heavy snowfall on December 13, 2019.
As per the details available with Early Times, the people living in Tatani, Shiroti, Londhary, Neju and other areas of Drabshalla block are living under darkness as the PDD officials fail to restore the electricity that got snapped 10 days ago due to snowfall in the area.
The people inform the Early Times that despite repeated approach, the officials of PDD Sub Division Thatri fail to restore the electricity in the area as a result of which around 2500 people living in this area are without electricity.
Speaking to Early Times, a senior officials said that the efforts are being made to restore the electricity in these areas added that due to shortage of manpower, the work of restoration got hampered. He said that only three staff members are available for an area spread over hills of Thatri (Doda District)and Drabshalla block (Kishtwar District) including in the most difficult terrain of Kuntwara area where it took several hours foot journey to reach from one station to other due to non availability of the roads. He said that similar is the condition with Saroor area of Kishtwar District added that though the government through various centrally sponsored schemes upgraded the power infrastructure as well as enhance the power connectivity to far flung areas- but at the same time fail to recruit the fresh staff as a result of which the departmental works are suffering. He said that their is immediate need for filling all the vacant posts in PDD that are laying vacant due to retirement of various developmental officials.
Another official inform that the electricity transformers are getting damaged due to excess power load which is beyond the doubt that their is non stop power theft since the transformer is that off much higher capacity as compared to the registered load. He also urged upon the people to make judicious use of power during winters.
The people in Drabshalla also held the protest against the PDD department and called for rolling back of enhanced electricity rents.
The angry people told the Early Times that on one hand side the department fail to provide electricity to the people beside restoring to 16-18 hours power cuts which at the same time had increased monthly electricity flat rates that required to be withdrawn without any fail as the people living in this part of the country are poor and cannot effort the enhanced electricity bills.
