Jaishankar's snub lesson for all
12/22/2019 10:23:23 PM
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who recently concluded his visit to United States, put his foot down by refusing to meet the US Congress woman of Indian origin Pramila Jayapal, who introduced a Congressional Resolution on Kashmir. Jayapal despite being requested by the members of Indian Diaspora not to introduce the resolution went ahead and ignored the ones who tried to tell her that such steps hampers India's cause in foreign countries and provides a handle to Pakistan to propagate lies against India. Jaishankar during his recent visit to the United States made it clear that he was aware about the Congressional Resolution. "I don't think it is a fair understanding of the situation in Jammu & Kashmir," he had said. The External Affairs Minister reportedly cancelled his meeting with the US lawmakers who had insisted upon including Jayapal in the delegation. The Government of India (GoI) remaining firm on its stand over Kashmir and making its foreign policy very clear during the past few years has led to closure of many shops in the foreign countries. These shops are set up by the people who are India bashers and used to leave no opportunity to carry forward propaganda against the policies of the Government of India at the behest of Pakistan. When Jayapal brought the Resolution she was informed about the developments in J&K and was requested not to move it. But she remained adamant. She didn't find much support from her colleagues but still she went ahead. By doing so she has been hogging the headlines and has become famous. There is no harm in becoming famous. But is it fair to become famous at the cost of the country which is the basis of your origin? The GoI has snubbed her. But the fact remains that she has played into the hands of the people whose only aim is to defame India and its leadership. By being a part of the game she has tried to give legitimacy to anti-India propaganda. The Resolution moved by her won't have any effect on the GoI and its foreign policy but it has hurt the nationalist people across the country. People of Indian origin in the foreign countries need to understand that they have to strengthen the hands of the leadership of their country rather than getting swayed away and indulging in publicity stunts, and playing into the hands of the enemies.
