Few ways people damage their reputation
Diksha Dogra12/23/2019 10:26:22 PM
Your reputation is in the hands of others. That's what the reputation is. Sometimes you may have good intention but others can misinterpret it. The most important thing for people is to establish a credit ... a reputation, character. Our every single action can build or damage our reputation. We think that small things don't matter but they do. A single instance of bad behaviour can lead us to bad reputation.
Key ways to lose your reputation:
1. Bad behaviour like fighting, racism, dishonesty, cleverness, sexism etc.
2. Naivety like whatever you are doing or saying cannot be recorded.
Are you 100% professional at office?: Our unprofessional behaviour at the office. If you are rude or difficult to work with, there are more chances that other employees talk about this. So directly or indirectly they are setting your image in their mind and most likely they won't like to work with you. You never know you meet any of your old colleagues in your new company and he or she will tell others too. It will not going to stop. It is with you now in your life as Image once set, is set for life. People who harass others especially sexually will often end up in getting terminated or in jail. You never know how and when some can help you. Our words, our ethics matters a lot for our reputation. How it will look if nobody wants to work with you? There is no such point of feeling bad at that time because you have made your reputation like that. Be good enough that everybody will say he is the Man/ She is the Women, we want to work with.
Gossiping in office: Gossip is fun for many people but ultimately you are making yourself happy by setting up some others image which you want to see in your mind. Our wrong gossips can set wrong image in others mind for an individual who may be good with them. We do gossips when we start judging people on every small thing they do without actually knowing them fully. Avoid doing gossips; you don't know what others have been through. We have no right to point out anybody. What if someone will judge you in a wrong way? You will hurt, you will feel bad. This is how they will feel. Say no judgements now. Live and let others live.
Dressing sense: Dressing too casually in office can be a problem. On the other side, dressing too formally can too. Be careful while choosing clothes for your office. It matters a lot to dress decently.
Be good with your style. The way we dress affects the way we think, the way we feel, the way we act and the way others react to us.
No Arguments: Arguments will show your childish behaviour to others like how you deal with your problem. They will think that you are not mature enough to handle good designation or more responsibility which will decrease your value in office. Keep calm in such situations where you think there is a problem. I am sure, there will be several others ways to deal with the problem. Avoid arguments as much as you can. You should know when to fight, when to walk away.
Attitude: People may hear your words but they feel your attitude. Right attitude at right time can get you on the right path. Your attitude can attract more opportunities for you. Show your best attitude. Don't blame others for everything. Accept if it's your mistake. Don't bring your ego in every situation. It can only make you happy at that time but later on it will harm you.
Substance Abuse: You may think that people won't notice you but they do. They will tell but they can tell someone who can terminate you. At the end, you will get unemployed and it stays on your records for life.
Misuse of Social Media: Social media these days is on the top of the game. Beware of posting any bad comments on pictures, status, pictures etc. People can un follow you at any time if they feel you are spreading negativity, you are posting nasty comments. Be a person with a class. Social media is a medium to stay connected with friends and people, not to make them offended.
Overly Emotion: If you have packed yourself with over emotions, nobody will trust you for important tasks. They will think you are not reliable as you cannot control your emotions. Show your emotions where it is required only.
Lying: Lie about things which are digestible. Everybody is smart enough to understand that you are lying like telling someone that you are doing great when you are not is fine but if you will always lie or bring excuses for your work, for your mistakes that will not be acceptable. Don't lie in all situations. If you have right attitude, you can do everything then there will be no need of lying.
Being reliable: If you have a call or meeting but didn't turned up this will show that you are not reliable. If you are telling someone that you will call, you will meet but you are not, people will not make engage with you. They will not trust you again because you don't think that their time is valuable. Respect everybody's time so that they will respect yours. Sooner or later it will damage you.
Your Image is You. Reputation is what others think of your Image. Show them your best version. Stay Calm and Happy
