Early Times Report

Anantnag, Dec 23: A verbal brawl between Executive Officer Muncipal Committee Pahalgam and Chairman of the municipality broke out after the later directed his anti-encroachment squad to remove the encroachments at picturesque Pahalgam.
Reports said that the Executive Officer Mohd Aslam, Chairman Rayees Ahmad Lone and Vice Chairman Basit Ahmad indulged in a verbal brawl over the constructions raised by the hoteliers near petrol pump at Pahalgam.
Executive Officer alleged that they (Chaiman and Vice-Chairman) manhandled him inside his office and restricted him from demolishing the illegal structures.
"Earlier this month, Chairman and Vice- chairman launched an anti-encroachment drive without informing me timely and demolished some temporary strcutures that the hoteliers have raised. the drive was appreciated by locals as well," he said.
However, he said, after two weeks the hoteliers started raising the constructions and encroaching the land. " I took strong note of the encroachments and directed by staff to remove the encroachments but he (Chairman) entered into my office and told me that you can not remove the encroachments," he said.
EO said that hoteliers again encroaching the pathway by raising constructions was raising several serious questions over the conduct of me and my staff.
"People were levelling serious allegations against my staff and it was impossible for me to tolerate such allegations and I wanted to remove these encroachments as early as possible," he said.
Executive Officer, however claimed that his staff managed to remove the encroachments later.
On the other hand, Chairman MC Pahalgam Rayees Ahmad Lone claimed that he never restrained Executive Officer from removing the encroachments and in fact took the initiative of removing encroachments
"Execative Officer isn't cooperating with me and I never restrained him from remove encroachments all I wanted to convey was that we must fallow the procedure, Lone told Early Times Over phone while admitting that they indulged in verbal brawl.
