Srinagar, Dec 23: Two regional political parties of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party on Monday carried out their first political party meeting after Article 370 was scrapped by the central government on August 5 and demanded the release of all political leaders.
National Conference carried out its party meeting at Nawa-e-Subah near Radio Kashmir, while the Peoples Democratic Party held its meeting at its headquarters near Sher-e-Kashmir Park. The National Conference party meeting was held under the leadership of Political Secretary Showkat Mir. The meeting was held by many second run leaders and party workers from both National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party. While as the meeting comes at a time when main political leaders from the National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party continues to be remained detained at several places. The center had detained political leaders including former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, Omar Abdullah and other political leaders on August 5, the day center abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcate the region into two separate Union Territories. Speaking to the media, Political Secretary Showkat Mir, who was there in the meeting said," Every month meeting used to hold every month but since the political leaders are being under detention. So we thought, we should bring the entire district president and other leaders under one roof today".
He added, "We demand the unconditional release of all the political leaders of National Conference so that political activity is carried out here in the valley. And, the scarce among the people in Kashmir would end only when the leaders would be released by the government".
Showkat Mir added, "The first abrogation of Article 370, then CAA and NRC all these things that have been brought by the Bharatiya Janata Party is unconstitutional".
A PDP leader said, "Almost five months have passed, there have been no development in the region which they talked about that would prevail here. We don't see that coming. Students and people have been suffering due to internet blockade".
He added, "We wanted to meet our party leader, Mehbooba Mufti several times but we were not allowed by the authorities. And, today leaders and party workers unanimously decided that we will again seek permission from the authorities to meet Mehbooba Mufti and will give her detail about the situation in the valley and will ask her what to do next".
