Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 24: Crime Branch Jammu produced charge sheet against a fraudster for enticing a victim through a matrimonial website www.shaadi.com on the pretext of the wedding.
According CB spokesperson, a charge sheet against Vikram Singh Barnala son of Ramesh Chander Barnala resident of House No. 572 Khokharai Gali No. 1 Lado Sarai New Delhi booked FIR No. 24/2018 U/s 420,465,467,468,471 RPC for enticing the complainant through a matrimonial website www.shaadi.com on the pretext of wedding, a gift pack, and cheating /duping her of hard-earned money.
In a written complaint, it was alleged that the complainant got a marriage proposal and accepted the same from the accused who introduced himself as a businessman from London whose wife had died in a road accident. He wanted to settle in India.
Both the complainant and the accused shared email addresses and contact numbers. The accused told the complainant that he would be coming to India for a meeting with some business clients and assured her to meet her parents for the marriage proposal.
The complainant was told by the accused that he would be sending her a gift pack of gold Jewellery, Apple iPhone, laptop, perfume, and foreign currency through courier service as a token of love & tradition for which complainant was required to pay a meager amount of customs duty.
Trusting the accused the complainant initially transferred the first installment of money in one of the account numbers of the fraudster purportedly as custom duty, however on being demanded more money for the release of the gift pack, the complainant sensed herself being defrauded.
On receipt of the complaint, a preliminary verification was initiated which substantiated the allegations against the defrauder and accordingly the instant case was registered. During the course of an investigation, evidence was collected which proved the allegations of cheating committed by accused and defrauding the complainant of his money. The charge-sheet against the accused was produced in the Sub-Judge Court, Jammu on 24-12-2019.
