Early Times Report

Anantnag, Jan 01: Hundreds of tourists from different parts of countries thronged South Kashmir’s framed tourist hill station-Pahalgam- to celebrate New Year.
Praising beauty of Kashmir, the tourists said that they visited Kashmir to nullify the hoax claims of those people who were claiming that Kashmir wasn’t safe for holidaying.
“Despite friends and parents suggesting us not to visit Kashmir we preferred to visit and celebrate our new year at Pahalgam because we know Kashmir is beautiful and safe,” Deviya, a female tourist from New Delhi, told Early Times.
However rued the attitude of Jammu and Kashmir Government for not restoring internet that stopped them from sharing their experience and memories of visit on social media sites instantly
“We wanted to share photographs of visit instantly on social media sites and wanted to convey a positive message for our people who wish to visit Kashmir but since the internet is not working here but we think the government must restore it,” they said.
They said that Kashmir is definitely a Paradise on earth and everyone should visit Kashmir.
Tourists, who were spotted playing with snow, also sang bollywood songs and praised the beauty of Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir tourism department had organized a cultural program for the visiting tourists at Pahalgam Club. Locals’ artists performed and enthralled the audience that had gathered to celebrate New Year.
Tourism Department officials at Pahalgam told Early Times that the footfall of tourists at famed tourist place Pahalgam is increasing significantly since from last three months.
In 2019, the officials said that over 2 Lakh tourists including local, domestic and foreign visited Pahalgam. “In the month of December 3500 tourists visited Pahalgam while as just 500 tourists visited the destination in the month of September,” they said.
Officers and stakeholders including hoteliers are hopeful that footfall might increase during early spring season.
