Tension in Gulf
1/9/2020 9:37:35 PM
Tensions escalating in gulf due to a faceoff between the United States and Iran could lead to a crisis which could engulf the entire world.
US President Donald Trump ordering the killing of an Iranian Commander General Qasim Solemani and Iran hitting back by firing missiles at American bases in Iraq have created a war like situation in the Gulf region. The US president has claimed that no lives were lost in the attack by Iran and has hinted to deescalate but the perception which is being created indicates that even a spark can lead to huge fire breaking out in the Gulf.
President Trump ordered Solemani's killing at a time when he is facing impeachment and there is every possibility about him being shown the door. Some people believe that the US President has upped the ante to divert the attention from his impeachment. Trump has followed the footsteps of his predecessors, like Bill Clinton, who also ordered strikes in the Gulf region when he faced impeachment.
The Government of India has been guarded in its approach and seems to be watching the situation emerging in the Gulf. The GoI knows it very well that it cannot take sides and will have to remain neutral if the US President decides to put his foot on the accelerator. But the point is can GoI afford not to take sides at this point of time?
President Trump has claimed that General Qasim Solemani was the man behind carrying out various terror related incidents and he has termed his killing as a part of the war against terrorism.
India itself has been the victim of terrorism and has been facing persistent threat from the terrorists like Hafiz Saeed, Masood Azhar and others. After Solemani's killing the voices across the country are becoming shriller to carry out the strikes against these global terrorists, who have bleeded India in the past and are still looking for ways and means to inflict more cuts on us. The time has proved that Pakistan government is in no mood to punish these terrorists and has gone out of way to shield them. The action carried out by the United States has paved the way for countries like India to act against its enemies who have emerged as potential threat for its nationals. It's really unfortunate that Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed and Pulwama attack perpetrator Masood Azhar are still roaming scot free.
